Amy's Almond Shortbread Cookies

Entered or updated 2014.

Amy's products are hit and miss. Many of their meal type products are overloaded with spice. These shortbread cookies are super. A bit crumbly due to the lack of (Glue) gluten so expect part of them to end up in your lap. However, the taste is worth the brush-off. Put them under or over ice cream or wash them down with a glass of milk. Good.

Amy's Cheddar Cheese Burrito

Entered or updated July 7, 2016, Post crash.

As I remember, due to the cheese this was a bit tastier than the rice and bean burrito. While one or two in the freezer for a quick lunch or snack, I prefer the made at home burritos.

Amy's Classic Shortbread Cookies

Entered or updated 2014.

As shortbread cookies, the"classics" are as good as the almond version. Shortbread is crumbly by its nature. If you dip these in milk, the"wet"portion will be at the bottom of the glass. Still good with the use of a spoon. A rebuy item.

Amy's Rice and Bean Burrito

I like burritos and generally do not care for the ones that come from the store. Amy's is a consistently high quality product. I would not mind one or two in the freezer for a quick snack or lunch.

Betty Crocker Brownie Mix

Entered or updated 2014.

Betty Crocker, part of General Mills, does this snack name proud. This is not"fudge brownie" mix so they are not those gooey, moist brownies. These are traditionally somewhat dry and crumbly brownies when Joyce follows the instructions. The only thing they are missing is a good scoop of vanilla ice cream. I love this type of brownie and without an aftertaste or a heavy cocoa taste, Betty gets five out of five stars. (Could get six out of five if they figure out how to box vanilla ice cream with it.)

Betty Crocker Chocolate Brownie Mix

I am kind of a fan of brownies. Especially with nuts in them covered by vanilla ice cream. I made these. Easy recipe, nice cooking, no undesirable after taste, and as brownies do, they crumbled while being eaten.

Betty Crocker Sugar Cookies

Entered or updated 2014.

First off, I am simply not a big fan of sugar cookies. I do like them but I will grab 147,784,457,987 other varieties first. I WILL GRAB SUGAR COOKIES LONG BEFORE I EVEN LOOK AT OATMEAL COOKIES.

Somewhere along the way we brought this box of Betty Crocker's Sugar Cookies Mix home and it sat in the cabinet for awhile. I finally pulled it out and read the instructions. Okay. And started mixing. Cooking instructions are guidelines, baking instructions are must follow formulas. Contrary to many gluten-free mixes, you can handle this mix like normal dough. Not sticky, not runny. Kind of reminds me of making cookies with Grandma.

I tried decorating them after they came out of the oven. Nothing stuck. I tried decorating them before I baked them. The results were okay, a lot of the decorating sugars ran badly. However, these guys are sweet enough they need nothing but a glass of milk and an appetite.

I baked them on parchment paper and a standard cookie sheet for 12 minutes at 350 in our convection oven. The first batch looked golden in the oven, they were totally white like on the box on the cooling rack. They stayed very soft and flexible. So, I"held" them in the oven for additional seconds until the edges started to turn a deeper golden color, the instructions say"light golden brown." With this the cookies are a bit stiff but not hard or annoying.

Taste is very good. Totally enjoyable. I find myself kind of walking past the container to grab another one. Not a big fan of mixes for simple convenience. However, these will be a repurchase item. Hmmm. I think I have some vanilla ice cream that can sit on top of these guys.

Betty Crocker Yellow Cake Mix

Entered or updated March 26, 2015.

Cake is a staple, part of the food pyramid. Not sure when this package came into the house. It had been sitting there for a while. I mixed it up, following the instructions and it mixed nicely, just a bit sticky, a common issue with gluten-free doughs and mixes. I baked it in an 8 x 8 inch metal pan at 350 degrees Fahrenheit using the convection option without using the convection temperature conversion system. At about 40 minutes the toothpick came out"pretty clean" so I turned the oven off and let the cake remain in the oven with the door closed for another five minutes. Trial and error.

The toothpick came out perfectly clean, the cake had risen well, and smelled great. After cooling I sliced it into 1 inch squares. The corners came out clean and fluffy. As the little squares came out the center was exposed. Nice and fluffy. The cake was baked to perfection through all portions. The taste is totally enjoyable. I did not put icing on it and I consume it several squares a day. This is a rebuy item. It seems you can always (usually) trust Betty Crocker.

Not sure if this is a new mix or simply a new box. It mixed well, baked well, and tasted good. I usually store items like this in the refrigerator without icing and apply it as I eat the pieces.

Bob's Red Mill Shortbread Cookie Mix

Entered or updated October 2014.

I love Shortbread Cookies. I think we found this mix at Sprout's. I mixed it up in accordance with the instructions without any problems. The dough is like the baked cookies - it likes to fall apart. The solution was punch it with a bunch of cookie cutters, leave the cutter in it, remove the excess dough and use a spatula to"spoon" the dough onto the parchment paper.

Baking in the convection oven using the same temperature as for a conventional oven, when well. The cookies come off the parchment paper crumbly. I had to put two cooling racks at right angles to keep the cookies from falling through. With cookies cool, they are as crumbly as glutenated shortbread cookies.

The cookies, once cool, are not as crumbly, NOT means still crumbly. They taste great. They have to transported on flats, do not try to pack these in a plastic bag. These are a repurchase when the urge its.

Crunchmaster Rice Crackers

Entered or updated February 10, 2015.

Not sure where my Wife purchased these. They are about 2 1/4" in diameter and very thin. They hold up relatively well when dipped into a fluid such as soup or stew. They do have a slight taste, not annoying, and not pleasing either, you just know that you have something besides texture in your mouth.

I have used them with cheese and hard salami as well as other cracker toppings. The Crunchmaster Rice Crackers takes all of them well. Be aware that when you bite this cracker it is most likely going to fragment into many many pieces.

This is one of our first purchases of Enjoy Life products. Very pleased. The cookies are thin and crisp. They are about 3 ~ 3 1/2" in diameter and about 1/4" thick. I finished them rather quickly. We tried them under and on vanilla ice cream. Super!

Joyce is going to buy some more and try making a pie crust out of them.

Evol's Chicken Burrito with Guacamole

Entered or updated October 2014.

I think this is the first Evol product located. Gluten-free is becoming more and more available. Located at Target by my Daughter. It seems Target is carrying more and more gluten-free every time we look.

I followed the instructions - minor change, the guacamole is a frozen stick, start by putting it in cool water to defrost it before you start nuking the burrito or you will be waiting. I followed the microwaving instructions and the burrito came out at about 155 degrees F. I use a digital thermometer quite a bit. Poultry by my info should be 165 or better (and not much) so I nuked it for another fifteen seconds. Hit the mark for temperature. This is one of the annoyances of way too many variables in microwave cooking.

With the entire, more than ample, guacamole spread across the top, the texture and taste of the combination were satisfying filling the need for a long delayed lunch on a Saturday. I most most of it with my fingers, not a problem. Guacamole kind of started getting all over the place, too messy for fingers, switched to a fork. The tortilla cut with the edge of the fork with a little resistance, common for nuked tortillas.

Overall a very good product that is going on the rebuy list.

Evol's Shredded Beef Burrito

Entered or updated March 6, 2015.

Our Daughter found these at Target if I am not mistaken. The first try was the Evol Chicken Burrito and it was a good lunch for size and taste. For the Shredded Beef Burrito I wrapped it in a damp paper towel, as instructed, but nuked it in the microwave for 3 1/2 minutes on a power setting of 7.

Power settings on a microwave are really"timer settings." The microwave cycles on and off at full power -"full power" on 100% of the time, power level 7 on for something like 7 seconds, off for 3, on for 7 seconds ... until time is over. Using a power level like 7 and a longer time keeps things like the tortilla soft.

The size and taste were good. Right size for light lunch. These are a product that may stay in small quantities in the freezer for that busy day.

Generally not a fan of chicken based hot dogs however, these are good!

They cooked well in accordance with the package instructions. They held together while eating, and were nicely sized.

Purchased from Albertson's here in Southern California, which seems to be increasing its gluten-free inventory every week. These are a buy again item for those afternoon snacks or casual meals.

Frito-Lay Cheetos (Corn) Puffs

Entered or updated 2014.

There are several snacks that I lost access to when I won the Celiac Sprue Lottery. I walked past the Cheetos many times simply based on their"construction." One day I got delayed in the aisle for some reason and I learned a lesson. READ THE LABELS! Cheetos has maltodextrin in it and, while"malt" made from rye and barley is bad, maltodextrin does not present a problem for winners in the lottery and Frito-Lay reinforces this by saying their maltodextrin is from corn. One of the greatest (in my opinion) snack foods ever. Now if they could just stop it from turning everything orange. But that is 40% of the fun with this product. Five stars of five stars. These do not last long in the house.

Frito-Lay Cracker Jack

Entered or updated July 7, 2016

If there is one product that could justify a larger (wider) image size than my standard it would be a fight between M&M's Snickers and Frito-Lay's Cracker Jack.

Simply a winner. If you want to know a secret, most of us know it already, shake the bag upside-down many times to get the peanuts to mix better. They settle to the bottom in transport.

Garden Lites Chocolate Muffins

Entered or updated April 23, 2015.

To set the record start, Joyce gave me one as snack today before I saw the box and my taste and like comments were decided before I saw the box. Garden Lites Chocolate Muffins are made with fresh zucchini and carrots. Okay. Gluten-free but ... ZUCCHINI? If you like zucchini and you have ever planted zucchini in your garden you know that zero zucchini plants is not enough and one is too many. Not a big fan of zucchini - HOWEVER!!! I did not know they had zucchini until after I decided I had better options. They simply lost the taste test. Not a big fan of very very fudgy tasting treats. Maybe vanilla icing would offset the fudgy taste and that adds work to this treat which is frozen and must be nuked to be ready to eat. With so many good chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake, and angel food cake as well as other"ready to grab" options, Why very fudgy tasting Garden Lites Chocolate Muffins that need to be nuked? We will finish the box and the episode will be closed.

Ginny Bakes Chocolate Chip Cookies

Entered or updated 2014.

I usually do not put two items in one spot but kind of how the picture was taken and how the items"taste out."

Opened the Double Chocolate Happiness cookies the other day. Super packaging, they come in a formed plastic tray so they will travel well. Not a fan of chocolate chocolate cookies usually. While I love chocolate chip cookies and chocolate, the assault of chocolate-chocolate overwhelms me unfavorably. These are perfectly flavored, as a result, they break the trend. Wish I had tried dipping them in milk, but the consumption rate was short enough the kitchen was too far away.

Becki found these at Target, which seems to be carrying more gluten-free on a weekly basis. A rebuy item.

Girl Scout Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Shortbread Cookies

Entered or updated 2014.

(As grammar school was ending I became a girl scout thou not a member of a troop so this organization has memories for me.)

Girl Scouts sell these regionally, not sure if it is a test, limited product, or what. One of the individuals my Wife works with handed them over. With only 5 ounces in the package, a bit expense but 1) Girl Scouts, and 2) gluten-free. Nice texture and size, right amount of chocolate chips per cookie. Leaves a bit of an undesirable aftertaste. However, not enough to stop future purchases.

Girl Scout Toffee-tastic Cookies

Entered or updated February 10, 2015.

It is February so it is Girl Scout Cookie time. Having suffered through a fair amount of toffee type cookies, not a big fan by stereotype. These came into the house and I waited a bit. Then opened the box to see if they were going to stay. I used to be a big fan of Girl Scout cookies then I found out about Celiac Sprue.

Back to eating Girl Scout cookies, while I miss the other labels, the Toffee-tastic Cookies live up to their name. Very light, very crumbly, very enjoyable. The problem is you have to buy a bunch in February and then ease your way through the pantry as the next February is 11 months away. In milk they simply come apart too quickly. I decided on a cereal bowl and a spoon. The things you have to resort to because of Celiac Sprue. Thank you Girl Scouts, they are GREAT.

Sorry, the package kind of got torn up before the photo. These are that good! I pretty much finished this entire package before I realized I wanted to take a photo of it. I teach and the classes are normally three to four hours long with a break in the middle so I pack snacks. These cookies went very well into the snack bags and held up to some rough and tumble handling before eating without severe damage. Hampton Farms Salted Peanuts-LA Dodgers Package

Entered or updated May 7, 2017.

First, I am a fan of anyone who is playing the Dodgers. However, this is "promotional packaging" and I would expect no difference in quality between LA Dodgers and San Diego Padres packages if Hampton Farms packaged for the Padres.

My Wife is a big San Diego Padres fan and at least one of her students is a big LA Dodgers fan. It is a friendly classroom rivalry. During Teacher Appreciation Week 2017 (when my Wife would prefer classroom supplies) she got this package with "Best By 06-24-17 04017P3" with a UPC of 0-81864-16043-7. The back of the package says "Gluten free." Peanuts are gluten-free so the labeling is appreciated.

Probably 10% of the contents were slightly or more than slightly discolored shells with several being on the edge of black. A number of shells were simply empty and there very few loose peanuts in the bottom of the bag. A fair amount of the peanuts came out of the shells very dark golden, bordering on brown. They tasted bitter, sharp, tangy - OLD. After several "tastings" these simply got thrown away.

Several years ago we purchased a bag of peanuts at Petco Park while watching the Padres. After finding similar non-satisfying quality issues I went back to the window vender and was told I needed to contact DNC (Delaware North Companies is the key vendor at Petco Park) for refund considerations. After the game, at home, I did and was told that the employee on site should have 1) refunded my money or 2) replaced the product upon request. Now I wish I could remember the name of the product.

Season tickets still in hand for the Padres at Petco Park, we carry Hoody's shelled peanuts from CostCo. Never had a quality issue with them shelled or in the shell.

Harry and David's Moose Munch - EXERCISE CAUTION

Entered or updated 2014.

First, the intent of the page is to tell you know what you can or where you can eat from a positive side. However there are some things that look acceptable to everything but your digestive system in the Celiac Sprue and gluten-free world. This is one of the few negatives I will post.

Harry and David's is known for some very interesting products and services. If rumor and television documentaries are correct, the sales event that established the company is interesting to some of us. I love all sorts of flavored popcorn so I get buckets and such as gifts. I was given numerous packages of Harry and David's Moose Munch, flavored popcorn, recently. The"gifter" asked the representative at the store if it was considered gluten-free and the answer was"Yes." The packages do not say gluten-free, much of the flavoring is caramel, and the ingredients do list"soy lecithin." Caramel and soy are two of the"gotchas" in the gluten-free diet. Unless the manufacturer can specifically say that the caramel and soy are gluten-free, tend towards safety and decline. In part the very polite response to my consumer inquiry to Harry and David via the Internet reads as:

"We have not certified that any of our Moose Munch is gluten free. This is because it is manufactured in a facility that also makes products that contain gluten."

So they are playing it safe as well. Another example that floor representatives may not be good guides to a gluten-free diet.

I issue the same advisory on flavored potato chips."Pure potato chips" are good as a general rule. However ("glue") gluten sources are often used to hold the flavoring to a chip.

Ian's Breaded Chicken Nuggets

Entered or updated May 10, 2015.

I am not a big fan of chicken nuggets. I love fried chicken, baked chicken, roasted chicken, barbecued chicken, and probably a few more types. The common element is the prepared pieces of chicken look like part of a chicken. However, to take the bits and pieces and make"nuggets" is something I oppose. With that in mind, Joyce bought these as a trial and possible standby.

With the option of nuking them in a microwave or baking in the convection oven, Joyce chose baking and they came out nicely structured and maintained their presentation to the plate. Pleasantly, mildly spicy. Kids would probably love that level of spice. Nicely breaded meaning bread is probably less than 10% of the weight. Taste was acceptable in all aspects including texture. With the overall ease of preparation, taste, and texture, these may find a way into the freezer as a convenience meal for that busy Saturday afternoon.

Immaculate Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix

Entered or updated April 16, 2015.

Not sure where we found this, the MCAS Miramar Commissary possibly. Simple - add 1/2 a cup of softened butter, a teaspoon of vanilla, and an egg. I threw it in the Oster mixer since the KitchenAid decided it does not want to work anymore. After about thirty seconds, I stopped and used a spatula to fold it - the chocolate chips were getting ground up. Nice handling dough, not sticky at all. When fully folded I simply rolled a glob out into a tube about 1" in diameter and cut it into slabs about 1/2" thick and placed them on parchment paper.

Baking in our Kenmore Elite convection oven always seems to be cool, even after adjusting it up, took about 16 minutes per batch. I have discovered it is best to cut a cookie in half to ensure it is baked through. When baked, these cookies tasted tested very nicely. With the milk dunk test, they held up well. These will be a rebuy.

Jolly Time 200 Calorie Healthy Pop Butter Popcorn

Entered or updated 2014.

Popcorn by its nature is gluten-free. When you package it like this it can become an issue. Remember that potato chips by nature are gluten-free. And then they flavor them. So you need to read the labels. The box says gluten-free and they are. At a higher cost then other packaged popcorn products for the same weight but ... we tried them. It is good. The four small bags, great for an evening snack without ruining anything.

I usually pop popcorn in one of those hair dryer gizmos and spray liquid butter on it as it pops into the bowl and then sprinkle it with popcorn salt. This tastes better than what I make with my gizmo but for the cost differential, back to the old fashion way.

Popcorn hint - Popcorn pops because of the moisture in the kernel. It grows old if you do not use it relatively quickly. To delay deterioration put it in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

Kinnikinnick Angel Food Cake Mix

Entered or updated April 1, 2015.

The Kinnikinnick products are common on the gluten-free shelves. Joyce brought this home because I love Angel Food Cake. The instructions are simple and the baking process went as expected. After cooling the Angel Food Cake came out of the Angel Food Cake pan easily. The end result is a bit more sticky than the glutenated Angel Food Cake and tastes a bit off. While it may be on the menu in the future, it is just far enough off in taste and texture to put on the"do not stock under normal conditions" category.

Kinnikinnick S'moreables

Entered or updated April 2, 2015.

Kinnikinnick products seem to inhabit the gluten-free shelves and they are usually a good, save, buy. Kinnikinnick S'moreables follow the trend. These are packed in a plastic tray with several crackers in each of the three or four sections. I use a scissors to cut them apart to store them in zip-lock bags during transport. This protects them from becoming crumbs. These crackers taste great. I have eaten them as S'mores, with butter, with milk, etc. With milk, they hold their structure fairly long but, like glutenated graham crackers, you cannot delay getting them into the month.

Kinnikinnick S'moreables are going to be a constant stock in the cabinet. I take them while hiking. They fill the stomach with only a modest requirement for water and supply slow, easy energy.

Kinnikinnick S'moreables

Joyce found this or created this. Basically a S'moreable in a bowl and nuked in the microwave. Recommendations. 1) Go easy on the chocolate. 2) IT IS HOT!!! Wait a few minutes and still have cold milk available.

In order to nuke them I had to set my microwave to 50% power - which is not really a power issue, it turns the tube on and off in cycles, and set the time for 1 minute. Other setting resulted in melting maple coating and frozen or cold dough centers.

I placed this in snack foods. These guys are small, as shown on the package, they are on a standard size dinner plate, not a platter. The oven is the recommended method of heating and it takes time. In our convection oven the corn coating got into the burned range and the hot dog was only warm. We tried several different times and temps and got no great results with our limited efforts. When microwaved the hot dog gets nuked big time and dries up and shrivels really bad which se per at es it from the coating. With that said, microwave is our preference.

The taste is good. We tried them with ketchup, classic yellow mustard, and spicy deli mustard. As a snack food, we will be bypassing this one in the future unless the urge for a corn dog is high simply on the results of heating.

Again, not sure where these came from. Joyce thinks they came from a local grocery. These were good. Crumbly, as expected.

Wonderfully Raw Coco-Roons

Entered or updated July 7, 2016, Post crash.

These were well before the crash. As I remember I asked Joyce not to purchase them again for some reason. I love macaroons. These were a bit off.

Wow Butter Toffee Cookies

Entered or updated May 8, 2015.

Right off the bat, I am not a big fan of toffee. Probably 50% of what carries the title"toffee" I am not going to enjoy. Wow has numerous really good products. This is not one of my favorites. I will eat them, they are not bad, I simply do not enjoy them. When you have a choice between a snack that is good and a snack that is acceptable, which do you pick? Purchased by Joyce somewhere, not a rebuy item.

Wow Chocolate Chip Cookies

Entered or updated 2014.

I am a big chocolate chip cookie fan. Linda, from Church, found these at T.J. Maxx and brought them in. Good cookie and a BIG HIT with the kids. Just a bit gritty as if the sugar was left as a crystal and I like that as it adds texture. They are thick, probably over 1/2" and about 1 1/2" in diameter. Not crumbly and with no heavy cocoa taste or after taste. On the package, Wow Baking says they also have other kinds.

I am a big fan of lemon bars. They are simply that refreshing challenge to my taste buds. Not sure where Joyce found these. Really really like these guys. These are a rebuy.

Yoplait Yogurt

Entered or updated 2014.

Yoplait Yogurt has LOTS of gluten-free flavors. Check the individual containers. You will find flavors I am missing in other aspects. Apple Turnover, Key Lime Pie, all sorts of SUPER tastes. We buy them by the stack of ten and they are gone in a week. 5 stars of 5 stars for these guys.

2Good2B Chocolate Chip Cookies

Entered or updated 2014.

My Daughter picked up several of these at the bakery's location in Encinitas, California, and brought them up for a late Father's Day. I stacked them on the counter when she walked in as we were placing dinner out at the time. In the clean-up time after dinner I went to stack them in the snack cabinet. One was filled with little red ants. Not sure where or when they got in but .... The packaging is a one end open envelope folded over with a smaller seal to hold it closed. It does not seal the package closed. This is a problem with the product.

The remaining cookies were uninfested so the taste test. They taste really good. No surprisingly odd taste and no lingering aftertaste. Crumbly, common to many gluten-free products. Way too big for a light snack unless you are going to share with friends and family or you are going to put part of it back in the package.

The recommendation is obviously store in sealed bags immediately.

Candy

Entered or updated 2014.

I classify things like candy bars and candy corn as candy and things like pretzels and potato chips as snack foods.

Any candy that is labeled"Not for individual sale" means they are not telling you the ingredients and that is bad unless you already know. Watch out for caramel. It is one of those things that it depends on the source. More than one winner in the Celiac Sprue lottery has commented to me that once diagnosed they gained weight. I did because most candy is acceptable (not good for you). So lunch more than once was one carbonated beverage and two candy bars. Really blows the calorie count off the chart but it keeps me out of the hospital.

Butterfingers are good. Nestles Crunch is not - they use malt on the rice. Malt is bad - made from rye and barley. Maltodextrin is okay.

Black Forest Gummy Bears

Entered or updated February 10, 2015.

Black Forest Gummy Bears are one of those staple candies for some. My Wife loves them. I prefer hard candies, things Snickers bars, or nuts. So I tried these. They taste good, gummy, chewy. The upper right corner of the package makes it clear that they are"A Fat & Gluten Free Food."

While they taste good, they are chewy will remain on the household buy list, Joyce has been buying them for a long time. I will let her enjoy them. Nothing wrong with the flavor or presentation. Simply the wrong texture for me.

Ferrara Boston Baked Beans

Entered or updated July 31, 2016.

Boston Baked Beans are one of those foods from the childhood of both Joyce and myself. Joyce saw these somewhere and brought them home. She opened them in the first inning of a Padres game and they were gone by the fifth inning. Good. A "memory" candy.

Gimbal's Cherry Lovers

I remember these. They came in a gluten-free gift pack. Tasty, very enjoyable. I could handle a few more if I had a bigger belt for my pants.

Hershey's Milk Chocolate

Entered or updated January 23, 2015.

Hershey's Milk Chocolate is a staple, a food group all by itself. Kind of interesting to see"GLUTEN Free As Always" appear on the back of the package. This does not surprise me, it does reassure me. More and more companies are"clarifying" their gluten-free quality. I appreciate that, I appreciate the larger description on the packaging. Makes the trip down the aisle a bit quicker.

Honey Stinger Kids' Organic Chews - Sour Citrus Flavor

Entered or updated July 8, 2016.

These came as part of a gluten-free gift package. I am 1) not a fan of sour or tart candies, and 2) not a fan of this type of chewy candies. They left an after taste I found undesirable. Joyce did not care for them either.

New Born, Inc. Peeps

Entered or updated July 8, 2016.

There are some substances you simply trust because you have always trusted them and Peeps is one of the majors in that category. While I still believe the yellow chicks at Easter are the one and only true Peeps, Peeps have (fortunately) become available all year-round in appropriate shapes and flavors.

These came home from the Marine Corps Commissary, some others in the house came home from KMart and Stater Brothers. Peeps are always a must buy. Kind of like having sugar on the counter and eggs in the refrigerator.

I highlighted the"Always gluten free, fat free" on the left package with the red outline.

Spangler's Dum-Dums

Entered or updated 2014.

I love candy. This was sitting on the counter and I noticed"Free of Major Allergens" so I flipped it over and continued to read.

"This product does not contain peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs fish, shellfish, wheat or gluten. It has been manufactured on dedicated equipment.

Made in the USA

THANK YOU SPANGLER!!

My Wife buys these for her class and there are more than enough for one to each student and not enough for two each, or enough for two to each student and not en ought for three. Whatever. So ... I get the balance. I love Dum-Dums. More and more manufacturers are stating gluten-free. Watch out, in the gluten-free world, logic is not applicable. Many candies and snack foods you would not normally associate with gluten are poison to us winners of the lottery.

Tootsie Roll Midgees

Entered or updated October 2014.

It just seems that Tootsie Rolls are one of those candies that was here when your great grandparents were kids and will be here when your great grand kids have the great grand kids over. They are simply one of those items in life that just instill faith, confidence, and security.

Having placed the Celiac Sprue lottery for several years now I seldom eat anything without checking it. Tootsie Roll Pops are good and since the center is a Tootsie Roll, I feel pretty safe with them. I flipped the bag of Midgees over and found something I was never aware of before. "Produced in a facility that does not use peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, or gluten." Neat!

More and more schools are becoming intolerant to peanuts in particular. Kind of wish they would address Celiac Sprue - I do not want everyone on a gluten-free diet. However, I looked at one school's published menu for a week recently. If I were a student with Celiac Sprue at that school it would be salad five days a week.

Tootsie Roll Industries LLC, thank you for making the effort and statement. I love your Tootsie Roll Pops and I can, and frequently do, make it down to the center without biting.
